Family Pilgrimage

12th September 2011
25th-30th July 2011

In July 2011, 5 Scottish families and 1 Spanish family congregated in Schoenstatt, Germany for a pilgrimage led by Fr. Bryan Cunningham and Sr. Margareta.
For some, this was their first experience of Germany and they were surprised at how they felt at home in the Original Shrine. The group was extremely privileged to be present when one of the couples, Mahesh and Rosanne Perera, took this opportunity to make their Covenant of Love.
Some of the highlights included a trip to Sr. Emile's grave at Mettenich, seeing the altar used by the priests in Dachau Concentration Camp and Fr. Kentenich's apartment. However, the most poignant moment came when the group visited and prayed at Fr. Kentenich's tomb in the Adoration Church.
While the group was enriched by the spiritual experience, there was time for socialising and a trip to the BUGA in Koblenz incorporating a cable car trip across the Rhine.
All participants, children and adults alike, left Schoenstatt with a stronger bond to the Shrine, to Fr. Kentenich and to one another. It is hoped to repeat the experience in the not too distant future.
