The Schoenstatt Centre, Campsie Glen, was the venue for a unique celebration for couples on the Saturday following Valentine's Day. The couples, all members of the Family group, met at the centre to share a gourmet meal in the specially constructed "Valentino Bistro " which had been beautifully prepared by Sister Margareta working closely with Jim and Fiona Kennedy.
Throughout the evening there was time to enjoy delicious food , wonderful company and also to consider the theme of the evening which was, "An exchange of hearts ".The reflection drew on the wisdom of Fr Kenntenich , the founder of the Schoenstatt Movement, and used the symbol of the rose to encourage couples to continue to strive for everyday sanctity . The couples were invited to look at the rose, symbol of their love but also to acknowledge that in every life there are the cross, sacrifices and difficulties which can be likened to the thorns on the rose . There was time for discussion on the value of transforming the thorns into expressions of love. The reflection then centred on the power and example of Our Blessed Mother whose own life endured many thorns. The couples were reminded that she is personally interested in each one and helps us to say our "Yes" to the sufferings that are part of our lives. After a delicious meal, each couple walked under a star strewn sky and gurgling stream to the shrine where, in a very moving prayer service, each person placed a rose on the altar, a symbol of the offering of one's life to God in union with Our Lady . One couple summed up the thoughts of many when they said, " What a beautiful experience we have enjoyed . It was such privilege to be part of the Schoenstatt family on such a special evening ".
