Fall of the great beech tree

Around Campsie Glen there are many old and ancient trees particularly oak chestnut and beech trees dating back several hundred years. It was with a heavy heart that one of them had to be cut down. It had been shedding large branches and leaves had stopped growing every year. The great tree was dying and was in danger of falling if high winds blew hard enough. In July 2009 the lumber jacks came to do the deed.
