The covenant cross is a Celtic cross, which features as the watermark on our web pages. It normally stands on the hill over looking the centre from where visitors can get a clear view the shrine, the movement house and the back drop of the Campsie hills. Now over twenty years old it was carved in 1987 to celebrate the 25 years since Sr Xavera, our first Schoenstatt sister, started working in Scotland. In 1990 shortly after the opening of the shrine it was formally placed in its’ present location. Since then it has stood there in all seasons and weathers welcoming all who visit the shrine and use the grounds.

Like all material things it is beginning to suffer from the ravages of weather and time. It was decided to remove it from it’s concrete base and give it a good clean and varnish. It took some head scratching and strenuous effort to lever it out of it’s socket but at last it is drying out in the garage while the process of stripping and sanding goes on. Since my visits to Campsie glen are intermittent it may take a couple of months before the job is finished and the covenant cross can welcome visitors again from it’s hill top position.
