Lent
21st February 2007As 2007 got under way the annual lenten devotions were also celebrated out at the shrine. With the completion of the stations of the cross the Lenten way of the cross now has a proper focus and this year over 60 people came along to join with the movement in meditating on Christ’s last journey to Calvary. The Passover meal was the main celebration on the Wednesday of Holy week. [Show Article]
Sacrament of Reconciliation: Preparation
15th April 2007Since 2000 there have been several schools’ projects and it was thought that these events had run their course. However the Religious Education dept of Glasgow Archdiocese approached the centre with a proposal to do another project based around the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Discussions were held to see what could be offered. The result is that during the month of May 3000 primary school children from the central belt of Scotland will visit Campsie Glen. Through stories and activities the chi... [more]
The Covenant Cross
20th April 2007The covenant cross is a Celtic cross, which features as the watermark on our web pages. It normally stands on the hill over looking the centre from where visitors can get a clear view the shrine, the movement house and the back drop of the Campsie hills. Now over twenty years old it was carved in 1987 to celebrate the 25 years since Sr Xavera, our first Schoenstatt sister, started working in Scotland. In 1990 shortly after the opening of the shrine it was formally placed in its’ present location... [more]

Fr Desmond Quigley RIP
1st September 2007How Great Thou art. On the day God brought my fifth grandchild into the world - tiny Calum Lynch at 7lb 5oz — I got news of the death of my great friend Father Desmond Quigley. Despite a long struggle with cancer, Desmond fulfilled all of God’s wishes right to the end. He loved Him to the full throug... [more]

12th October 2007Over the last few years there have been several firsts for the Scottish Schoenstatt family. The first trip to Milwaukee and this year the first visit to Dachau. Individuals have certainly made the trip before but these group pilgrimages were a sign of the growing maturity in Schoenstatt's spirituality for the whole Scottish family. Here Eileen and John Shalloo tell of their experiences following in the footsteps of Fr Kentenich that led to the trial of Dachau concentration camp ' On Friday the ... [more]
The MacFarlanes of Ballencleroch
19th October 2007Just before the Sunday 21st October celebrations the house at Ballencleroch received an unexpected visit. A couple turned up asking to see the house explaining they were related to the MacFarlane clan who built and ran the original Ballencleroch house for almost 400 years. Mr Ian Robertson explained that his mother was a MacFarlane the niece of the last owner of the property before it was sold off in the middle of the 20th century. Installation of the Holy Spirit symbol
21st October 2007Over at least the last four years the Scottish Schoenstatt family has been preparing the Holy Spirit symbol for the shrine. The last symbol to be worked and prayed for was the Father symbol which took it place at the top of the altar at Campsie Glen in 1999. This was providentially also the year of God the Father which formed part of the preparations for the Jubilee year in 2000. The empty patch on the ceiling of the sanctuary was a constant reminder that there was still something to work for. I... [more]
